The Tengu USB toy got its name from the Tengu (also known as the "heavenly dogs" or Tiangou) which are supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore. They are well known yōkai or monster-spirits and are sometimes worshipped as revered spirits or gods. The Tengu is also a mischevious character who likes to plays tricks on people and somewhat like the god of mischief.
Anyways the Tengu USB toy will not play any tricks on you. It was initially named as such as the Tengu usb toy seemed to resemble the Japanese Tengu. Subsequently, it didnt really turn out to be Tengu-like, but then the name stuck and so the creators continued to use this name. By the way, the Tengu USB toy is produced by Mr Jones Design Ltd and was designed by Crispin Jones.
The Tengu USB toy is a sound reactive USB character, i.e. that means to say that it will "wake-up" when it hears sounds. The Tengu USB Toy does not make any sounds though. It is a totally silent toy. What happens is when a Tengu is plugged into a USB port and it detects some sounds, it will lip synch according to the sounds that are heard. (If you ask me I don't think it really lip-synchs but the pixels just start moving when sounds are heard!)
The Tengu usb powered character measures 70mm high, 43mm wide and 14mm deep (the packaging is 168mm x 98mm x 34mm). He comes with a 1m white USB cable. According to the manufacturers, the tengu usb toy works with all types of computer - including Windows, Mac and Linux (as long as it has a USB port or USB hub which is the source of power for the tengu usb)
Initially there were some wooden Tengu usb powered characters too, but these have since sold out. Appended below are two types of tengus for your viewing and buying pleasure. They are the same thing just that one of them is sold out so I decided to include both sources as a backup. The makers have also released Tengu All Stars. These are basically three tengus with different hair styles(added on to the existing tengus). If you ask me I think these are a waste of money, so I would advise that you purchase a normal simple tengu usb powered character, and then enhance it yourself! Make your own tengu hairstyle or whatever suits your fancy!
