Organic Green Coffee

By

Hello there! Interested to know more about organic green coffee? In my previous hub on green coffee, I have introduced many many varieties of green coffee beans that can be bought and roasted at home. Then I went on to talk about green coffee roasters and green coffee makers. I realised that I missed out a very very important component of green coffee. That is real good quality green coffee, in the form of fair trade green coffee and organic green coffee. For this hub, I am going to focus on organic green coffee! And perhaps you would want to get some espresso pods or a modern french press to go with them!

Organic green coffee is green coffee that has been grown according to organic farming techniques. This means that no artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides were used in the growing of the coffee crops. The term organic can also refer to farms and plantations which promote the use of green and socially responsible activities such as recycling, composting, soil health and environmental protections. Currently, the primary producers of organic green coffee come from the countries of Peru, Ethiopia, and Mexico.

Organic green coffee, needless to say, is more expensive than normal green coffee. There are thus guidelines and certifications before a green coffee farm can sell off their coffee beans as organic green coffee. To get this certification, the green coffee must meet the following requirements, among others:

  • The organic green coffee crops are sequestered away and there is a certain distance between the coffee plantation and the nearest crop.
  • The coffee must be grown on land that does not contain synthetic pesticides or other prohibited substances for three years.
  • The plantation has to have a proper sustainable crop rotation plan in place to prevent soil erosion, the depletion of useful soil nutrients, and control for pests.

The Organic Green Coffee Market

I have previously mentioned that organic green coffee beans are more expensive than other normal green coffee beans, but do you know that the initial amount of capital needed to grow an organic green coffee crop is less than the normal coffee crop? This is because the organic coffee plantation does not require the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and hence money used to spend these equipment is saved. The catch is this, the organic coffee plantation yields a smaller crop and thus the output of the farms are less. To raise profit margins, these coffee farmers would thus raise the price of their organic green coffee.

For those who like to experiment with roasting their own coffee, organic green coffee beans provide a much better outcome and taste than non organic green coffee beans. This is because organic green coffee was grown without synthetic chemicals and fertilizers and also in an environment in which conditions were optimal for coffee growing. I have previously wrote a hub on green coffee roasters and how you can make your own green coffee cup so if you need more information in this area please feel free to check my other hubs.

Coffee is supposed to be grown in an environment which is shady and not too sunny. They also like to grow in land which contains rich soil. Coffee plants grow fairly slowly, hence given ample time and nutrients to grow, the coffee beans that are produced would be of a much higher quality. This is the way how coffee should be gone, and this is the way organic coffee plants are grown. Non organic coffee growers grow coffee on farms that do not offer shade and also force the coffee plants to grow much more quickly with the use of harsh synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.

If you enjoy making your own coffee from beans that you have roasted yourself at home, why not try roasting organic green coffee beans? I can assure you that you will never regret this choice and you will never ask for ordinary coffee ever again. Not only will you be enjoying your coffee much more, but will also be healthier and also helping to save the earth.

Organic Green Coffee

Why Drink Organic Fair Trade Green Coffee?

I have already briefly listed the benefits of drinking organic green coffee above. What about organic Fair Trade coffee? What are the benefits of drinking fair trade green coffee? Fair trade green coffee comes from all over the world, most of which comes from farms in developing countries. Fair Trade green coffee also requires Fair Trade certification, this certification implies that the farmer who has grown the coffee, has received a fair price for the green coffee beans. In addition, the farmer's community and surrounding environment would also benefit from the Fair Trade prices as well.

Fair Trade organic green coffee helps farmers in developing countries market their harvests and get decent profits from the sale of their green coffee beans. This is derived from contracts with international buyers that set proper prices. Fair Trade green coffee and organic green coffee go hand in hand because both practices contribute to a better environment and a greener earth. When you purchase Fair Trade green coffee or organic green coffee, you are not only helping the farmer and his or her community but you are also helping mother earth. And since organic green coffee already tastes so good, why not buy Fair Trade organic green coffee instead?

Benefits of buying and roasting your own Organic Green Coffee Beans

Besides enjoying a great cup of organic green coffee, roasting your own organic green beans has other benefits too. First of all, you can safely preserve and store organic green coffee beans for more than one year. Green coffee beans in generally stay fresh much longer than roasted beans. Coffee bean experts say that green coffee beans can stay fresh for up to 6 months while roasted coffee beans can only stay fresh for up to seven days. There are two reasons why roasted coffee beans cannot be preserved in its fresh state for long periods. First of all, roasted beans oxidise within 7 days of the roast and hence lose their flavour; secondly, the internal chemical processes created from the roasting process continue after cooling. The next time you drink that cup of organic green coffee, taste it slowly and ponder whether you are drinking oxidized coffee. Buying green coffee beans not only gives you better tasting coffee, but since green coffee beans can be preserved for a much longer period, you are given the opportunity to buy green coffee beans in larger quantities and result in massive savings of money. I would suggest buying wholesale organic green coffee beans.

Talking about saving money, prices for roasted gourmet coffee at the supermarkets ranges in price from $7.00 per pound up to $49.00 (for the more expensive Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee). In addition, there are “canned supermarket coffees” available in the markets that usually contain "cheap" fillers such as ground "chick peas". Once the coffee is ground, one will not be able to ascertain if it is one hundred per cent coffee unless the coffee powder is analyzed at a laboratory. Buying and roasting your own green coffee with green coffee roasters will let you savour one hundred per cent FRESH coffee (guaranteed!), and as mentioned above, save you money and if you buy online save you a trip to the store!

To conclude, I implore you to try out the freshest and finest gourmet specialty green coffees from around the world by roasting your own organic green coffee beans. Once you try freshly roasted gourmet organic green coffee, you will realize that the other coffees you have been drinking all this while was pretty much rubbish and nonsense! Feel free to check out the green coffee roasters on my other hub so that you can purchase them online, together with the organic green coffee beans. Order some organic green coffee beans or wholesale green coffee beans today and start saving money!
