Life Coaching Exercises
74Do you feel like you are running a long race? Yes life is about running a long race. But like what most people say, life is about enjoying the journey and not about getting to the destination. So most people will just keep running, perhaps with some goals in mind, yet they may left out some of the most important things in life. Why have I started this article with this story? Well the title of my article is about life coaching exercises, hence from the word exercises I thought it would be apt if I gave you an example of someone who is always running for her life. The truth is, are we running aimlessly? I think it is proper that we identify some things to run for in life and we can always be assisted by a certified life coach.
So first of all what does a life coach do? Most of the time, the purpose of the life coach is to ensure that the client has a healthy work life balance. That is part of the big topic which I want to talk about today. If you are running in the wrong direction, i.e. unbalanced, you may be neglecting some parts of your life which may be important to you, say your family or friends. But of course there are other forms of coaching for other aspects of life. This includes career coaching especially for those in senior management level or middle management and executive level. People want to be more effective and increase and improve on their performance both at home and at work.
Life Coaching
Getting a life coach is like getting an outsider to assess you. He will be unbiased and able to see what is going wrong with your life or what needs improving. He may also be able to see invisible obstacles that may be blocking your path to success and advise you on the necessary to overcome these problems. Sometimes they can also anticipate the issues that you might face and teach you on how to avoid them. They are also here to motivate you and inspire you and take you to your next level.
Life Coach
Anyways before you engage a life coach, I would like to teach you some life coaching exercises here on my hub. Do not worry, these are absolutely free life coaching exercises and I am not going to charge you a single cent for them. In fact, I must thank you for being my loyal audience who have read my article till here. These life coaching exercises aim to help those seeking to make personal or professional changes or deal with difficulties in their life. These exercises will allow them to do some self coaching or to clean up their minds and allowing them to think clearer. Of course these useful materials can also be used by life coaches or those aspiring to be a life coach.
A Simple Coaching Exercise - Life Focus
This coaching exercise will allow you to identify your priorities in life and hence what you should focus on. First of all make a list of everything that is most important to you in life. This may include your family, your friends, your job, money, time etc. You can also think about the things which are not material in nature, such as getting respect or recognition, or spiritual, mental and health well being requirements as well as what your character desires, i.e. wanting more challenges. You can also focus on the things which you like, such as sporting achievements, creative talents.
Take a few minutes to think through this carefully. Be sure that you list down every single item which is important to you. It does not matter if your list is too long or too short but what matters is that you give it deep thought. When you are done, I want you to rank these priorities in terms of most important to least importance. It is alright if certain items are ranked the same. After you have ranked the items, spend a few minutes thinking what you are currently doing that is related to that item and whether you are happy with the way that you are spending time on that item now. Remember pareto’s principle or the 80/20 rule? It is important that you spend at least 80% of your time on things which matter to you. Right now assess if you need to spend more time and effort on certain items which are of high priority to you. I hope this exercise has been meaningful and useful to you in identifying the things you want in life and how you should focus on these areas. Sometimes you are just so busy letting life pass by that you fail to notice all this.
Another Life Coaching Exercise - Positive Thinking
Let me give you another life coaching exercise here. It is called positive thinking. Now you know it is very important to have positive thoughts in your mind all the time. Having negative thoughts will only drag you down making you depressive. What I want you to do is to carry a notebook around. The human being is capable of lots of independent thoughts everyday. However most of the time we may be thinking about negative things instead of positive ones. I want you to write down all these negative thoughts when you think of any. Sometimes it may be difficult because these thoughts happen so fast but just try your best. Then when you reach home I want you to convert each of these negative thoughts into a positive one. With every negative situation I am sure there is a positive side to it. This extra homework will not only make you think twice whenever you start to think about something negatively, but also get you to quickly think of something positive whenever something is negative.

Life Coaching Success
It is definitely not easy to be a life coach as you would not only need to take up several life coaching courses but also life coach training to get some life coaching certification. The life coach salary is also not that attractive and most people do it for the passive and not the money. While there are many life coach jobs out there, it is not an easy becoming a life coach and finding a good life coach is also tough. What ever it is I do hope that you become a good life coach if you are aspiring to be one and wish you success in your life coach journey.
